From the research I've done, it only applies to torrents, because those are easier to track. There are rumors that it could be pushed back into the fall, though, because legislation is still being worked out.
The Internet is supposed to run on good feelings (obs not including forums/discussion boards).
GOSH it's the kind of ridiculous action that almost makes me want to go into politics/law - all these old people/politicians and company execs have to be stopped. Sat down somewhere, handed some tiny sandwiches and have someone go - LOOK, I understand that you don't want your 'property' floating around in the ether for free...but the popularity of your content is built on the foundations of Fandom (of the online public) and people making gifs, icons, screenshots and Vids will in noway decrease the value of your content - IT ENRICHES IT - It's a bloody communal activity to spread the love of a show/movie/book...so back the EFF OFF.
UGHHHHH bb.
Awful people are ruining the internet ;_; - they're like RL trolling us.
We practically need a plan for a new internet, a better internet, that no one over 35 knows about...lol.
I don't want all these international/US restrictions to pass into law, because then what? We wait
( ... )
No, yes, you're totally right. It's just so insanely stupid, I can't get over it. They don't seem to realize that the more piracy laws they enact, the more people who will find ways around them and the more popular piracy will get. They don't realize that the popularity of their shows/movies is tied into the fan, the one who makes the effort to do something illegal to watch their beloved item.
I've been reading a lot on piracy, freedom of speech, the connection, avoiding these BS laws (seriously, TorrentFreak is your bff), and at least they have ideas and support. That makes me feel a little better.
AND do these people realise that throughout history whenever unpopular laws/restrictions have been placed on the populous it's resulted in people just getting shrewder and more deceptive in order to continue on as normal, but under the radar?
Some people are just going to be all: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
I really can't see this having a good outcome short term for anyone.
(AND ALSO: HELLO. I haven't talked to you for ages and then come in ranting and flailing like a loon. Without even the niceties of a HELLO! O_o ...hope everything else with you is going awesome. I've been catching up on 90s movies for the hell of it, and trying to pysch myself into reading stuff for some criminology units I enrolled in....it's legit week 2 and I'm already lazy. UH OH. *laughs* I should probably get started on that now, actually. Bye. Sorry to rant at you.)
It's already been proven! The number of people who've taken up VPNs has skyrocketed. And they should really look at the UK if they want an example of preventative measures actually causing a surge in pirating. They passed a law over there that bans The Pirate Bay from a lot of ISPs...and the day that ruling got handed down, TPB's UK hits increased by well over 5 million. The site was blocked, and they still got an upsurge in users. Long-term trend studies show that pirates don't stop when laws come around; they just get better at hiding. And I am totally one of those people
LOL HI. I've been aflj(away from lj) for a while, but I just got back, so I'm still getting into the swing of things. School is hard, life is stressful, making shit makes me feel better. Rinse and repeat. And I know exactly what you mean. I have a ton of homework for trig that I just can't seem to do. DX
