Mobile Phone Cheating Case

Jun 24, 2008 22:33

Today, my mum bought a new mobile phone and upgraded her line and extended her mobile line contract to 24months to get the free phone. The sales guy recommended a basic Samsung phone as she has simple needs and usually don't use the other features apart from basic phone calls. It was an occasion to be happy about but alas.

I took a look at the invoice and notice a very updated HTC Diamond phone in it. To my amazement, the second page of it wrote $598 for this HTC phone. At the last entry, the customer has paid cash of this amount for this phone.

The sales guy has earlier said that the old model Samsung phone is worth $500 plus and she must upgrade her line to get zero dollar promotion(which doesn't exist in the 1st place for this model) for this phone. But at the end of the whole transaction, he only made my mum sign a document with Starhub to acknowledge the 24 month contract and she didn't pay a single cent for the Samsung phone.

I check the IMEI number on this Starhub contract and the IMEI number of her Samsung phone and they are different.

It is an outright cheating case for unknown consumer who can't understand english and make them unknowingly sign contract. I will assume that the HTC diamond phone will be resold as a new set and can fetch a higher price.

My treatment to the lousy small handphone shop is this, I will bring this phone set with the invoice and starhub mobile contract back to this shop. If they cannot provide me with a satisfactory answer, I will refer them to CASE, Starhub HQ and the Police.

For all out there, please also be aware that this same phone shop has many outlets all over the island. Do accompany your aged parents who can't comprehend english next time for their shopping trip and especially when a contract is concerned.
