Yay for lucy :) You've written this so well. The ambiguity concerning the men with ropes and the pain fits beautifully. It seems to make sense in an 'I'm not quite aware of what's going on because time is relative' kind of way - i.e. my favourite kind of way.
I know that most English teachers ask for clarity in student's writing, but for me ambiguity is what creates the magic xx

I can't help but think of that bit in the H2G2 film, "Leave this to me -- I'm British, I know how to queue..." ;)
