weasleysangel When Elizabeth Weir stepped out onto the East Pier to greet the new personnel arriving on the Daedalus, her heart did a little skip as she took in the tousled dark hair of the man conversing with Rodney, his back toward her. Then she paused, shaking her head, as she saw the red maple leaf on the flag patch. Still, as she got closer, the height, weight, and bearing still reminded her of Atlantis's favourite son.
"Welcome back, Rodney," she said and the dark head turned.
He smiled and nodded, hazel eyes dancing. "Elizabeth. Good to see you again."
Her own answering smile was just as pleased. "John! It is you! I... the flag... and..." She fell silent, noting the blue panels on his uniform as he turned toward her and the flash of gold on his left hand.
Rodney smirked. "You asked me to see if I couldn't get him back here. Well, I got him back."
John gave him a pained look. "Rodney," he said warningly.
"Ah, Major Lorne!" Rodney said as the Atlantis Military XO walked up. "You look considerably better than the last time I saw you."
Lorne grinned. "Yeah, no more blue scales. How have you been, doc?"
"Busy," Rodney answered. "Major Christopher Lorne, meet my new husband, Doctor John Sheppard-McKay."

"Okay," Elizabeth said, rubbing the spot between her eyes like she was getting a headache, "you couldn't take on anymore Americans because of some limitation the International Committee has set, so instead you married him?"
"Yes," Rodney answered. "I thought it was a brilliant idea myself."
"And you agreed to this?" she asked John.
"Sure," John answered. "I didn't have a problem with it."
She considered the two of them. "Okay. It's none of my business. I'm just thinking that when Colonel Everett gets back from offworld, he's going to have some interesting theories about John and his time here."
John shrugged. "I'm not his problem anymore."
"No," she answered, "you're Rodney's."
John gave her his best innocent look. "When have I ever been a problem?"

John blinked at the sight of Rodney McKay standing before him, jeans and a tee shirt that read "Run around naked."
"Rodney?" he asked.
"Hi," Rodney said. "I read your thesis. Very impressive."
"Um. Thanks. But, you know you could have called."
"Yes, yes." Rodney waved his hands dismissively. "The point is, I can get you back, on the science staff, but there's a catch."
John raised his eyebrows and stepped back from the door. "Come in."
Rodney took a second to survey John's apartment. It wasn't much different than the one he'd had on Atlantis-- guitar, surfboard, Johnny Cash poster...
"So, what's the catch, other than having to work under you?"
"The International Committee has decided the expedition is too U.S.-centric. I can't hire you."
"That's a bit more than a catch," John said, heading for the kitchen. "Beer?"
"Got anything other than American?"
"No. Your choice is Sam Adams or Sam Adams."
"Well, I guess I'll have Sam Adams, then," Rodney answered, flopping down onto the futon couch. "But, I had a thought. I could hire you if you were Canadian."
John returned, handing Rodney a bottle. "I can't just wave my hand and declare myself Canadian, so how does that help?"
Rodney took a swig before fixing John with a serious look. "You could marry me."
John spewed out the beer he had in his mouth and began coughing.

"These apartments here are very nice, west-facing balconies, sizeable beds obviously for married couples," Lenoir said.
"Any with other bedrooms that could be made into offices?" John asked.
"There are... four right here that are three-bedroom and unoccupied."
"Sounds good. How about we go check those out, Rodney? Rodney?"
The chief scientist looked up. "What? Oh, yes, fine."
"Rodney, you can leave those reports for later. If Zelenka didn't meet you yelling, 'Oh, thank God you're back!' it'll wait."
"Yeah... sure..." Rodney said distractedly.
"Rodney! Come on. We need to get our quarters squared away. I'd like to sleep sometime tonight." He turned to the Canadian-- his fellow Canadian, now wasn't that a thought?-- Sergeant. "Thanks, Sergeant."
"You're welcome, sir... er, doctor. Congratulations."

They'd just gotten their bed made, the windows opened to freshen the air, and were mostly done putting John's things away and were starting on Rodney's when there was knock at the door. John peeked out of the bedroom, but saw Rodney already at the door, so returned to work, pulling his sweaty shirt off.
He heard low, angry words and stepped to the bedroom door, just out of sight, to listen.
"How could you bring him back here?" Everett's voice growled.
"He's got the gene in spades, he's got a doctorate in aerospace engineering, he knows the puddlejumpers, and, frankly, it's none of your damned business."
"People are still going to treat him like he's a major in the Air Force, like the former head of military operations and I don't need that."
"Well, then, I suggest you--"
"Rodney," John interrupted, stepping into the living room and crossing to the front door quickly to slip his arm suggestively around Rodney's waist. "Come to bed, babe. I've been waiting for you." He looked at Everett and gave the military man a suggestive smirk. Everett looked like he wanted to continue the conversation, so John leaned forward to Rodney's ear and dropped his voice. "I used the silk sheets," he whispered.
Everett's face bloomed crimson and then he turned and stalked off. The door slid shut. Rodney stared at him, then started laughing. "Oh, I've never seen him speechless! You... we... I think I've found a new weapon."
John smirked, releasing Rodney, and returned to sorting and putting away their things. "Glad to be of assistance. Actually, that was kind of fun. We'll have to do that again."
He didn't see the look of longing that flickered across Rodney's face. "Yes," his husband said, watching him bend over a crate. "Yes, we will..."
