Your story reminded me of a really good episode of Stargate crossed over with a spy thriller. And they got to go to Atlantis at the end. Just wonderful. I can just imagine the possibilities that the story could go from here.
This was one heck of a wonderful surprise, let me tell you. :D I'd thought you hadn't been able to take part in the RBang in the end. (Did you ever get my email?)
Anyway, this is a great story. I'm really impressed that you were able to pull an exciting and hopeful adventure out of a picture that I was sure could only inspire a story ending in disaster. I loved the OCs in this, and how the Soviets were far from iron-hearted, stone-faced enemies. The easy, long-term relationship between John and Rodney made me very happy, too.
I also loved the ending to this story and how you got there. I agree that a sequel would be fantastic--do they find the original expedition? Do they ever contact Earth again? It'd be awesome to find out. :D
