It took John a moment to get his breath back, and to realize that he was being yelled at.

"Sheppard?"

"Ronon?" Struggling upright, John peered into the forest gloom. "Where are you? And nice shot, by the way." He spotted the glow of an energy weapon and headed towards it.

"Watch where you're going next time."

Shaking his head, John let his gun hang from its clip and held out a hand. It took most of his strength and all of his balance to haul Ronon to his feet - well, foot - and start them hobbling through the forest again. Neither of them glanced at the fallen Wraith as they passed.

"Next time," John puffed as Ronon's arm tightened around his shoulders, his weight nearly toppling them both, "try shouting a warning instead of just shoving me over and firing. Then maybe I can get a shot in too, preferably before we both end up on the ground."

Ronon's snort turned into a grunt of pain, and John concentrated on keeping them moving. He would have argued some more, but it was hard to take issue with a guy who'd broken his ankle saving your life. The ridge they'd tumbled down was about ten minutes behind them now, which meant the clearing was just five minutes ahead.

They'd only covered about half the distance before John had to stop to catch his breath. Grateful for the cool night air, he tipped his head back to look at the stars.

"You like it up there."

There was a smile pulling at Ronon's mouth despite his pain, and John returned it before lifting his face to the sky again.

"I thought it would be cool, when I was kid. The whole space adventure thing, you know?" He shrugged, knowing that Ronon would feel the movement. "It's not turned out quite how I thought."

"Guess not." Ronon didn't move, just leaned on him, his fingers gripping John's shoulder.

"Worth it, though," John said, shifting to get his balance before setting off again. He felt Ronon's fingers squeeze tighter for a moment, then almost before he knew it, the clearing was in sight and the Jumper was uncloaking in front of them.

"I give McKay ten seconds before he starts yelling," John muttered, seeing through the darkness the gleam of Ronon's teeth, bared in a pained grin.

"I give him five."

Ronon won. As usual.
