It's worth it. She's one of the few writers in the fandom with a good grasp of military stuff, and doesn't just perpetuate mistakes made by the screenwriters.
Yeah, I like that one...her Sentinels of Atlantis, Ties that Bind, and the new one she's working on (can't recall the name right now) are also really great.
Perhaps my favorite of miss_porcupine's is "Custer's Last Stand" & its mini-sequel "Royal Jelly", where the Atlantis Military find out that Sheppard is not the expected by-product of the Air Force. (As a side-note & warning for the latter link, once you get to the separator line, that's the end of that little bit, since below that is a completely different story. Also.... No Pairings)
Perhaps one of my favorite John-goes-around-the-bend stories, which showcases a probably Spec. Ops background, is "An Ever-Fixed Mark" by K Hanna Korossy -- it is an excellent character study of John, Rodney, John & Rodney's friendship, & even the interaction /friendship of the team, which has Ford on it, at the time of this story. (No Pairings)
"More Than Meets the Eye" by wildcat88 makes mention of Sheppard most likely having a Spec. Ops background....from the POV of Lorne. (No Pairings)
Although, there is no discussion about John's past back Op's background, in “End Game” by Kristen999, John uses traps and military tactics to stop an 'unbeatable' enemy and is very badassed!

Another common BadAss!John series is by sardonicsmiley: "Five People John Sheppard Didn't Kill on P11-23R", which has a sequel Snippet. (McShep Pairing)
