The audition process

Aug 14, 2005 12:23

N.B.: If you don't understand the value of an editor or have no use for their suggestions, don't even bother auditioning. Everyone needs an editor to do their very best work, and you are no exception. If you think you are, you really won't fit in with this group, believe me. *g*

Step one: Email me to express your interest in participating. Be sure to let me know how you'd like to help: as a writer and/or editor.

Writers

Step two: You will receive a simple scenario, including a setting, plot point that needs to be covered, and characters.

Step three: Write about 500 words for the scenario you received and send it back to me. (You don't have to write the scene to its completion, just enough to give us an idea of where you're going with it and how good a grasp you have on the characters' voices.)

Step four: I'll edit it and send suggestions (if needed) back to you.

Step five: Send the final version back to me, and I will post it in a friends-locked post to the community with no identifying information.

Step six: The community members will read your scene and give their opinion on how well you did in a poll, addressing topics such as your grasp of the characters' voices, overall writing quality, etc.

Step seven: Combining the results of the poll (and related comments) with how well you dealt with editorial suggestions from me, I will either extend an invitation to join us or thank you for auditioning.

Editors

Step two: You will receive a couple of short scenes to edit.

Step three: Send the edited scenes back to me and I will post it in a friends-locked post to the community with no identifying information.

Step four: The community members will read your editing suggestions and give their opinion on how well you did in a poll, addressing topics such as your grasp of the characters' voices, how you present your suggestions, grammar, spelling, etc.

Step five: Depending on the results of the poll, I will either extend an invitation to join us or thank you for auditioning.
