The door slid open and she was looking at the most charming smile she had ever seen. Her cheeks turned red and once he said hey, she grinned. Suddenly she felt like she wasn't prepared. Lily sneaked a glance at her clothes.
Her best dark gray skirt and white dress shirt were neatly ironed, and her diamond jewels gleamed. Oh well. She would have to live with it.
"Evening. Come on in," he told her. She looked absolutely stunning and he told her as much. "Have a seat."
After the party a few nights ago, Lily and John had become inseparable during their times off duty. No one said anything thankfully and if the SGC knew about their relationship, it didn't seem to be their top priority.
"Wine?" he asked, reaching for the bottle of Merlot.
"Sure," she watched him pour her a glass and then one for himself. Lily hadn't been away from John only for duty and sleeping. All of the other time of the days following the Social Event had been occupied by them spending time together.
Lily wondered why she hadn't been called out due to her relationship with John. The last time she had done that had led to a transfer and a stern warning. Well, this is a different line of work. Politics and espionage were far away now.
"How was your day?" John asked as he poured himself a glass of wine.
He was going to attempt to avoid the conversation about his Mom as long as he could. He really wanted to tell her what was in the letter, but Lily was more important right now. And he hadn't felt that way about anyone in a long time.
