Remember, our discussion of
wickedwords "Women's Work" is still ongoing
HERE.
Excerpts:
friendshipper says: I think it's really wonderful and fantastic how the fandom has seized on Miko and given her so much love and so much depth. I mean, the woman was only in one tiny part of one episode back in the first season. She only had a handful of lines and then vanished (and is often faulted for being an offensive stereotype, as well). But fandom loved her, and took her and fleshed her out, and uses her over and over again. When a writer needs a scientist besides Rodney or Zelenka, or someone other than the main characters with an ATA gene (even though it's not established if she actually has one or not in canon), or just a random "female" character besides Teyla or Elizabeth, she's probably the one that writers most often reach for.
lunabee34 says: I think the dream sequence with Atlantis works particularly well. I'm fond of the fanon that gives Atlantis some kind of sentience, and I adore that (just like any great Washington Irving story) we're left to wonder whether the effect Atlantis has over the geneholders in this story is real or imagined.
We will not have a fic discussion on December 30. I fear that many of us will be away from our computers at that time and so am postponing our next discussion until January 15. We will however do something fun on the 30th, so be on the lookout if you're around.
