A new
"Casting & Characters" post has been added, all information regarding the changes in regular cast the status of recurring characters and any new guest star news can be found there from now on.

Gateworld has posted a new synopsis for The Kindred pt I:
“Dr. Keller is perplexed by a mysterious new sickness that has affected a number of planets in the Pegasus Galaxy and threatens to kill hundreds of thousands of people. Further study reveals that it is not a contagion but a human-engineered protein designed to kill a feeding Wraith. Col. Carter and Dr. Keller realize that someone is intentionally infecting the Wraith's food supplies with no concern for the thousands of human carriers who are dying in the process.
Meanwhile, Teyla shares with Dr. McKay a vision she had in which Kanaan, the father of her child, was trying to send her a message that he is still alive. Now, more determined than ever to find him and the other missing Athosians, she convinces Sheppard to travel with her to a trading settlement in search for answers. What they find there leads them to startling discovery that no one could have anticipated.”

Gateworld has posted a new synopsis for The Kindred pt II:
Everyone on Atlantis is surprised to learn that a friend, once thought dead, is miraculously back among them. A captive Teyla, meanwhile, is reunited with her missing fellow Athosians who have also been interned at one of Michael's secret facilities. Ever hopeful that Sheppard will be able to mount a rescue, she begins to formulate a plan to ensure their escape, if he is able to find them in time.

New information added to the “Cast & Characters” post
The new Captain formerly known as Alison Porter has had a name change, Leela Savasta has been cast as the character who will now be known as Captain Alicia Vega, she will be making her debut in episode 5x1 Search and Rescue.
Alison Porter will now be the name of a doctor who we will be meeting for the first time in the episode Whispers.

Joe Mallozzi broke the news that Torri Higginson has decided not to return as Elizabeth Weir in season five. The episode that the producers hoped would see her return will still go ahead with the appropriate changes made.

Joe Mallozzi reassured fans that the addition of Captain Vega would not lead to less screen time for established supporting characters such as Lorne:
"No. The introduction of the Vega character had nothing to do with lessening the onscreen presence of any existing characters (regulars or recurring) and everything to do with a genuine desire to expand our roster of familiar faces."

It seems that in Whispers we will get to meet a new gate team led by Captain Vega (Leela Savasta):
"Well, I completed all of two pages on Whispers today, finally hitting that all-important 10 page mark but, more importantly, establishing the other team: Captain Alicia Vega, Lieutenant Anne Teldy, Sergeant Dusty Wells, and Dr. Alison (with one L) Porter."

New information added to the “Search & Rescue“ post
The new captain has had a name change out goes Alison Porter in comes Captain Alicia Vega - she will be making her debut in Search & Rescue. Leela Savasta, who had a minor role in the season 3 episode Tao of Rodney, has been cast as Vega.

Joe Mallozzi mentioned on his blog that Jewel Staite had dropped by to have a pre-season talk:
“…she [Jewel] was excited about some of the planned developments - but understandably a anxious about episode #2, The Seed, especially since I told her she’d have to get in for 4:00 a.m. every morning so that prosthetics could get an early jump on the body cast process which would take about 3-4 hours.

New information added to the “Whispers“ post
A new gate team will be introduced in the Joe Mallozzi penned Whispers led by Captain Alicia Vega who we will first meet in the season opener Search & Rescue. Alison Porter, the original name for the character of Vega, is now the name of the new team‘s scientist:
“Well, I completed all of two pages on Whispers today, finally hitting that all-important 10 page mark but, more importantly, establishing the other team: Captain Alicia Vega, Lieutenant Anne Teldy, Sergeant Dusty Wells, and Dr. Alison (with one L) Porter.” And it seems as if this (all girl?) team will be interacting with a returning character as Joe Mallozzi noted: “Carson will be in for a treat - when he’s not fighting for his life.”
