I love this, thank you so much! Jeannie's grumbling about how Aunt Moira is implying she isn't normal and then using the diary anyway (also, acid-washed jeans, oh god), her making fun of Rodney, her oh-so-typical teenage girl entry about Ryder, and her elation at getting into the program she wants. The way she doesn't want to be in Rodney's shadow, but she attempted to set him up as an incentive to bring him back home.

I love the story of how she met Kaleb. Being reluctantly dragged to a poetry reading and being caught by his voice is fantastic. And her making up romance novels about them (I, for one, would totally read about Jeannie, universe-hopping physicist, and her English major) I loved that there wasn't a book of poetry when Kaleb proposed.

And her anger/sadness at the way Rodney reacted, but still wanting him to be there to provide cousins for the children that she desperately wants with Kaleb is just lovely.

I'm so glad you like this. I enjoyed writing it. It was fun to postulate what Jeannie's younger years might have been like. I like her and think she's vastly underused in fic. My m-i-l kept diaries until her death at 91 and we've been reading some of the early ones, which provided the inspiration.

I admit I'm very tempted to write 'The Physicist and the English Professor' at some stage :)

It's interesting to see Jeannie's growth from a girl to a woman, including girlish gushing about a boy to thinking lusty thoughts about Kaleb. It's pretty cool to read about her getting her degrees and meeting Kaleb too - I'd always wondered how they had met! And now we know XD I like the epistolary format as well :) I wonder if Jeannie continues to keep a diary after her marriage, or if she gets too busy? I'd like to think she does.
