MOMENT IN TIME by TO BE REVEALED
The afternoon had been a long one for Teyla Emmagan. She was called on to work out a dispute for two allies of Atlantis. Without her assistance, there was the likelihood both would break their treaties with each other. Having no choice, Teyla had gone offworld. She was gratified to resolve the issue in less than eight hours. The two points of view merely needed review by a third party.
Rubbing her eyes, she approached her quarters, hoping to stay awake long enough to make it down the corridor. Talking to Mister Woolsey for half an hour about the successful conference had not brought her any more alert than when she returned to Atlantis. With a tired wave, she accessed her quarters.
The first thing Teyla noticed was the empty bottle on the counter, and the clean plates, bowels and utensils drying in the rack. It was pleasant to arrive home and find the kitchen area tidy. She was worn out this evening and appreciated clean dishes.
Next, she noticed the toy blocks on the low table in the living area. They were strewn about in chaotic fashion. Torren had obviously been playing with them.
Third to catch Teyla’s eye was the baby outfit on top of the laundry pile, along with damp linens. This told her that a bath had been managed. She heaved a sigh of relief. His bath had gone undone by the time she had to leave, and he had really needed it.
The fourth thing she noticed was the child’s book, apparently thrown to the floor. Her son, she knew, could have a temper when he so desired. He was still a baby, though, and adult patience usually won out over tantrums. Perhaps this had been the moment when it was decided he should have his bath.
She entered the baby’s room, and the fifth thing she found was John Sheppard, fast asleep in the rocking chair, her one-year-old son fast asleep in his arms. It must have been a long afternoon; the light was still on. Teyla stood still, watching. She would treasure this, before disturbing the two of them. It was past Torren’s bedtime, so she would have to try to move him to the crib with as little disruption as possible. For now, however, this moment was hers.
