IT'S WHAT THEY DO by
ga_unicorn The closest place to land was a clearing almost a kilometer away. The plan agreed upon and assignments handed out, the ramp lowered and twelve Marines in full battle-rattle poured out. They immediately split into two groups and melted into the darkened forest. McKay (reluctantly) stayed with the jumper, and Ronon and Teyla took a third path.
Thirty minutes to reach the building and take up position. Lt. Kagan crouched next the brick wall. Quick hand signals had the six men behind him settling down with barely a rustle. He spoke quietly into his radio, listened as the other teams checked in.
He moved forward cautiously to peer around the corner, poised to duck back if necessary. Sergeant Prosser was at the opposite corner, NVGs pushed up to more easily read the life signs detector. Kagan nodded acknowledgment when the other man signaled the number and placement of life signs inside the small structure had not changed since they passed over in the jumper. He scooted back and waved Haas forward, to place the explosives.
Prosser’s team would hold back as the second wave, if needed. Ronon and Teyla were set to enter from the single window at the rear of the building. Kagan moved his men up to within a few meters of the door. NVG’s came off and rifles came up.
The explosives were in place and Haas returned, handing off the detonator.
Three. Two. One.
Breaking glass from the rear.
An explosion ripping the door off its hinges.
The cacophony and blazing light of a flash-bang erupted.
The Marines thundered through the doorway.
…end
