RESCUE by
ga_unicorn He was down to three rounds for his pistol, so he’d picked up a branch. It wasn’t as light or well-balanced as the bantos rods he used when sparring with Teyla, but it fit well in his fist.
There had been only three bandits remaining when they’d grabbed his unconscious teammates and ran. He’d followed, managing to take out one more before being hit with a stunner blast himself. When he woke up, bruised and bloodied at the bottom of a ravine, he was surprised to still be free. The rain had begun by the time he managed to crawl back to the top
It was mid-day when they were attacked, but it had been dark for hours now.
The bandits, or kidnappers, or whatever-the-hell they called themselves had built a fire under the overhang of a small outcropping and were huddled there, the only reasonably dry spot for miles around.
The firelight was messing with his night-vision, but it wasn’t too bad so long as he didn’t look directly at the fire. His team was barely visible at the edge of the fires glow, trussed up next to the horses and still unconscious from liberal use of the Wraith stunners by the bandits.
He was looking for something to lure the two kidnappers away from the fire when the larger one stood up. The man walked away from the fire, already adjusting clothes before entering the trees.
The bandit passed within five feet of his hiding place, not even bothering to check the surroundings. He stepped forward and swung, connecting with the back of the man’s head with a satisfying thwunk. The bandit dropped with barely a rustle. He grabbed the strip of cloth he’d prepared to tie the guy up, but it wasn’t needed. He closed the lids over staring eyes and stood up, looking back toward the camp. The last bandit was alert, looking around tensely. It would be impossible to sneak up on this one.
He dropped the club and unholstered his 9mm. Stepping to the edge of the clearing, staying well out of reach of the firelight, he chambered a round.
Click-click.
The bandit surged to his feet, stunner coming up, and the bullet caught him in the forehead.
“Surprise,” Sheppard said as he stepped out of the shadows.
