TITLE: Of Butterflies and Men
FANDOM: Stargate Atlantis
LENGTH/RATING: 100 words, PG-13
PAIRING/WARNINGS: None
SUMMARY: "Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man." - Chuang Chou

It's the what-ifs that snare him, creeping into those empty hours when most of the city sleeps.

He’d have been okay, he thinks, in another universe. One where quantum mirrors and glitches in stargate mechanics didn't make what-ifs into something more than a fairytales. Where you couldn’t change the past and that's a good thing, because sometimes the almosts that didn't happen are so much worse.

But he isn't, he's here. And some nights he can't close his eyes, because every time he does he dreams of what might have been... and knows that somewhere, somewhen, it actually happened.
