A fun little adventure promising more.

“Lorne out,” Lorne said firmly, and a rock above his head, covering him and the buggy in fragments.

I think there must be a word missing here.

Also, which Katie is it?

Yes, I think you might be right - oops! It's Katie Brown - I've only ever heard Heightmeyer referred to as Kate.

Thanks for commenting!

I thought it would probably be Katie Brown, since you used that form of the name, but then you associated her with medicine, which makes as-much-if-not-more sense for Heightmeyer. Since you never really described her beyond action and physical attitude, I had to ask. After all, Cadman might've been calling her Katie out of affection.

Thank you for clearing that up! And I really don't mean to be such a pain in the ass commenter.

No, it's a fair point - she's a more major character in the sequel-that-was-written-first, so it never occured to me that people reading this without that would need the clarification. But it's been amended, so your comment was helpful, and it's always nice to hear what hasn't worked.

This is fun. I really like your Lorne, and his relationship with Sheppard. I went over and read the sequel too, and now I want to see more of this AU - I'd especially love to see how they wound up where they are - not so much the incorporeal bit (although that might be fun), but John and Lorne together on the Atlantis.

Thank you! It's a lot of fun to write as well :)

I'd especially love to see how they wound up where they are

Trying to do the right thing and getting caught by people who weren't, basically! Lorne's very loyal, and Sheppard's very prone to doing something dangerous and slightly stupid and suddenly there they are.

Well yes, but I was thinking more along the lines of details.

Not that I'm asking for them (because I know how frustrating it is for me when someone asks for sequels/prequels and I just don't have the time/energy/inspiration/inclination to do anything about it), but I am definitely interested.

Just so you know.

Thanks, that's nice to hear. I suspect I'll probably give in to the temptation to write more of this - I haven't succeeded in resisting so far :)

This is great! :D Reminds me a little of that brains-in-a-jar comm I ran across a few months ago, and a little bit of Firefly too. Which is totally a good thing. I love the fact that they can't seem to land on a planet without getting chased back off it. And Zelenka, who I just love because of his little Czech ramblings.:D

Off to read the other part now, though I get the impression I should maybe have read that first?

The disadvantages of all coming from basically honest backgrounds - hey're not actually very *good* at being criminals!

Oh God, Lorne is Zoe, isn't he? The parallels had never really occurred to me before, but both are loyal, pragmatic, unflappable second-in-commands with dry wits who get dragged into trouble by their more charismatic and trouble-prone bosses. And smoking hot.

Space pirates wannabes, really. Lorne's far too nice to be a pirate, and Sheppard's almost right--Lorne's got a soft soft for strays. awesome!

Yeah - they can't shake the urge to be good people, basically. Lorne's definitely got a soft spot for the mildly helpless; it's why he's still with Sheppard :)
