In case you hadn't realized, this is really, really good, and I like the way that it works on so many levels.
(Although I do think recurrence might pull some of the variations back together, fusing realities that are similar enough; any disjuncts would be put down to faulty memories/records).
And I really like both the "allergic to peanuts" and that the paper in question was written by Brendan Gaul.

I don't think the SG writers are very consistant with how they treat alternate timelines from episode to episode; their ideas of what qualifies as a "close" reality versus as "distant" one are pretty sketchy. Given that all the canon ARs we've encountered have multiple distinct features compared to baseline, I agree that realities which are closely parallel would "fuse" back to mean; I don't think that would happen with the zero and two timelines from "Moebius," though, because of the obviously disruptive consequences of losing both Atlantis and SG-1.
I think miss_porcupine wrote a fic in which Rodney works to get some of Gaul's research posthumously published, and that story really resonated with me. I always wondered how close to home Gaul's accusations of professional jealously were, and I don't think it's a coincidence that after that episode and "Hot Zone" back-to-back, we see Rodney hanging out with Heightmeyer.
