to be bipolar one had to BE depressed from time to time, not merely cause depression in others

I'd never even heard of it until I was reading through personality disorders for this story. He's, like, the poster boy (though we, of course, also know all about his sekret angsty core :-) )

I just want to take Rodney and convince him that all people have value, even himself. OTOH, given Atlantis's death & injury rate, global empathy might not be the best thing for him to be cultivating. (I think he has a lot of empathy - maybe a crippling amount - for the people he cares about.)
