Excellent. I don't think I've ever read anything either from Caldwell's POV or even with him as the main character. This was a fantastic foray into Caldwell's mind, and the mind of a host.

I liked the list of incidents when the characters have been 'under the influence', so to speak, and how it looks forward in a way to Caldwell's conversation with Weir and John in the infirmary in 'The Long Goodbye' (which I always thought was a chilling title, with its Alzheimer's reference). You get plus points for quoting Dylan Thomas.

Keep writing the tags, if they're as good as this one!

Thanks so much!

I wasn't sure if anyone would read this one, as Caldwell's not a popular character, so I'm glad to hear that you liked it. And yes, I tried to make this story a sort of thematic bridge between Critical Mass and Long Goodbye.

Oh, what a nice surprise! Can't say I go around hunting for Caldwell fics so it's unfamiliar territory for me, but I loved this. Well written too!

This is an unusual type of fic, but one that I'm sorta surprised you don't see more of in the sg-verses. The host pov is something that is so easy to overlook but also the place where you can get into all the emotions & messy parts of characterization without it being over the top.

I loved you Caldwell voice, it's hard to get him just right & his fears about sanity & then lost respect are so in line with canon. But having him an old school scifi reader was so cool, & makes sense. I gotta stop now, but reall the whole fic was wonderful & I loved the backstory you made visable.

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you liked it! I wondered how often host-voice has been done in SG-1, because I haven't read SG-1 fic in a number of years, and I don't ever remember reading one back when I was reading a lot of them. Totally guessing on what it would be like of course, but I tried to imagine. *winces*

I've been blocked on most of my stories lately, so the challenges have been helping get me writing.

You've got a point about Caldwell's social circle back on Earth. I honestly didn't want to get into that TOO much and keep the story basically Atlantis-focused, but I also didn't really think it through that there should have been people he was close enough to on Earth who would have noticed. But really, the fact that no one *did* would sort of indicate that he wasn't really that close to anyone -- at least no one he was in regular contact with.

And I agree with you about "Long Goodbye" -- most of the conflict there was more situational than having to do with his past.

Well, it's easy enough to avoid people in the short term. --Just claim you're very busy right now.

Also, think about the flipside: If someone did pry, what do you think the goa'uld would have done to them? When he thinks of that, I picture Caldwell feeling very relieved that the goa'uld wasn't aware of anyone being suspicious.
