A/N: No idea where this came from. Not beta-ed since it was written in about 40 minutes. Hope you enjoy it.

Ragnarök, the fate of the gods, the end of the world. Ronon had never been much for myths or superstitions but when he ran across this myth in the Atlantis database he remembered the stories from Sateda. Not that he believed them of course.

While the others on Sateda talked about mysterious beings and magical gadgets that would protect them from the Wraith, Ronon trained. When the others talked about heroes and legends that would stop the Wraith, Ronon trained. When the others talked about angering the gods and how tributes could save them, Ronon trained. When the others talked about the end of the world, Ronon sighed, nodded, and trained harder.

He knew the end of the world would happen, he knew the Wraith would come, but he held onto the foolish hope that maybe the stories were true. Maybe there were people and gadgets that could stop the Wraith. Then Sateda fell and he stopped hoping.

Then he met the explorers from Atlantis and he felt hope again. He saw the amazing things they could do. He saw them escape from the Wraith time and time again. He saw them bring down hive ships and save world after world. He saw them sacrifice everything for their home. He saw them sacrifice everything for what they believed in.

Ronon did not believe in magic, he did not believe in heroes, and he certainly did not believe in gods (what god would ever allow Wraith to exist?), but he did believe in Atlantis. They taught him how to hope again and for that he stayed with them. He still trained though. He trusted the people in Atlantis, but he wasn’t going to tempt fate.

And now as he looked up at the hive ships descending on Atlantis he remembered that word. Ragnarök. It sounded oddly appropriate for what they were facing. He looked at the others in the control room and sighed.

Rodney who was so much like his late brother. Teyla, the sister he never had and always wanted. Sheppard who reminded Ronon of his best friend who had died on Sateda to save him. And Elizabeth, the woman that was just like his Melena but so very different at the same time.

He looked at the faces of his new family who had taught him how to hope and live again. And though he didn’t believe, he sent up a prayer to the gods anyway. Maybe they would decide that the fate of Atlantis should be different than the fate of Sateda and so many other worlds that that had ended.

Hours later Ronon stood in the exact same spot with a smile on his face. He didn’t believe in the gods but maybe they believed in him…or maybe in Atlantis. He had survived the end of the world. Well, the end of the galaxy really because this new galaxy without the Wraith would be very different than the old one.

As Ronon looked at the remains of the hive ships that floated around Atlantis he decided that Ragnarök wasn’t always a bad thing. The world could end but not always. Fate could be cruel but not always. Ronon smiled and decided that even though he didn’t believe he would say thanks anyway. After all, who was he to tempt fate?
