Disclaimer: Don't own them [damnit!], just borrowing.
Summary: Teyla sees and watches.
Post-Siege II fic, no season 2 spoilers that I know of and since I'm a spoiler h0r...+grins+
The title came from J.R.R. Tolkien, which will make sense by the end.
Took 36 minutes to write, a minute to find the title. Unbeta'd [which will just piss off my betas, I'm sure]. 722 Words.
Also, I'll be a very happy girl when Teyla starts to call John and Rodney, 'John' and 'Rodney' instead of '[The] Major' and '[Dr.] McKay'. +lol+
Enjoy!
The Crownless Again Shall Be King
Fourteen days ago, Teyla and a group of Athosians came around a balcony to find Ford and a few marines pinned on both sides by the Wraith. Luckily, the Wraith did not see them until they opened fire, bullets from their P90s spraying until the last one fell.
Shortly after that the klaxon sounding the self-destruct came on, making Teyla and Ford lead those left to the gate room to evacuate. Climbing up the stairs to the control room, Teyla remembers the look of pain in Dr. McKay’s eyes when he glanced at her then back at the screen beside him. She remembers hearing Ford behind her asking Dr. Weir where the Major was while she was looking at the same display that McKay was looking at and having all the pieces fall into place. Remembers looking towards the sky and closing her eyes when a flash of white bled through the air, making everything look pristine when in fact it was the exact opposite.
After a moment of silence Dr. McKay said, “Time to take the second jumper out, yes?” and started to walk towards the stairs to the Jumper Bay. Only to be stopped a moment later by Dr. Zelenka’s startled “Wait!” from beside the display.
Zelenka continued after he saw McKay stop, “It’s the Daedalus!”

Twelve days ago, Teyla, along with Ford and McKay, took time to visit the recently awakened Major in the infirmary. They spend thirty minutes together; lightheartedly talking about inconsequential things until Dr. Beckett tells them it’s time to leave. Teyla warmly says she’ll stop by later that night and tugs on Ford’s sleeve. After passing the screen she hears a chair being moved, she presumes, next to the bed and hears McKay and the Major talk in low voices.

Nine days ago the last of the memorials for the dead are finished, with Halling reciting the final prayers in Ancient, as requested by Dr. Weir. She sees the Major and Dr. McKay sit side by side against the wall at the back of the mess hall, where the services are being held. The Major still tires easily and he is slightly leaning against McKay.
McKay is looking at the Major with a look of affection on his face.

Five days ago the damage assessment had been completed and with help from those aboard the Daedalus, Atlantis, barring any more visits from the Wraith, should be mostly repaired in three weeks. Both McKay and Zelenka have been ordered by Dr. Weir to take the next week off, which they both grumbled about but complied.
Teyla walked around one of the towers where some of her friends died, remembering them in her way when she stumbled across the Major and McKay. They were standing on a balcony, one that wasn’t scarred by the attack and watching the sunset. As she turned to go, she witnessed something she expected might have happened before between the two who she calls friends, but never thought she’d see. Right there on the balcony she sees the Major and Dr. McKay kiss.

Today, after some nagging from an unknown source one of the technicians from the Daedalus coughs up the Extended Edition of Return of the King to reinstate movie night. Six months ago Teyla had read the books for herself, including The Hobbit, which someone brought along as their personal item. Dr. McKay found them for her after they watched the Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring so she could read them all. Which she did within three weeks, much to McKay’s pleasant surprise. Even up to a month ago they had delightful discussions about the various characters and plot points.
While reading definitely has its place and stretches the imagination, Teyla reflects, there is nothing like watching it for the first time, all four plus hours of it in one setting. Sitting on a couch she has Ford to her left and the Major and Dr. McKay to her right. The Major and Dr. McKay are sitting very close to one another, with their thighs and arms touching.
Knowing what she knows is growing between the two of them and watching the end of the movie makes her feel that all is not lost.
Between them and the movie, Teyla feels hope once more.
