primary
John's favourite is
Superman: godhood disguised
in primary hues.
for humanity-
challenged entities, it's a
guidebook for passing.
so John wears black or
uniforms; John wears John; it
works as camoflage...
... until Rodney, who
thinks outside the box, and sees
what others dismiss
at least when it comes
to breaking laws of physics
or strange quantum leaps.
John is careful, but
not enough; in stealth his heart
grows overly fond.
the mission John brings
Rodney back from the dead cracks
John's shell of normal.
Rodney blinks at him
with questions in his eyes, and
"Colonel?" on his tongue.
Superman has an
answer for this too: mouth-to-
mouth amnesia
but Rodney's mouth is
hot and sweet beneath John's; his
body electric,
his expressive hands
divinity on John's skin;
his, "Oh god," a goad,
and forgetting this
is beyond John's power; just
so impossible:
John's godhood stripped down
to primary needs, basic
desires... humanity
and when the kiss ends,
Rodney looks at him with hope,
wonder, love, and it's
so heart-breakingly
familiar, John wonders if
he learned the wrong thing
from Superman, and
if the true lesson always
should have been: Clark Kent.
