Author's Notes: I have no idea where this came from . . .
Carson woke and stretched an arm out. Encountering cold sheets, he raised his head and looked around to find John standing at the windows, naked, staring out over the city.
Getting out of bed, Carson walked over and put his arms around John's waist.
"He's still fighting me, Carson," John whispered.
"I know, love," Carson whispered back. He could feel the struggle taking place in John's slender frame. "We knew this wouldn't be easy, but you can't let him win. If he does . . ." Carson trailed off, knowing John understood what wasn't said. If he does, I'll be left here alone.
"You didn't have this much trouble," John said bitterly.
"No, because I'm not the same person here. This Carson Beckett was a civilian doctor, not a trained soldier like you and I. He didn't have the defenses we do, and he couldn't fight against the things I did to preserve us." Carson nuzzled John's shoulder. "You will prevail over Major Sheppard, John. I know you will."
Moving so he could see his lover's face, Carson raised a hand to stroke John's cheek. "Every day I can see it gets harder and harder for him to regain control, and when he does, it's harder for him to keep it, to use what used to be his body. He will fade away, John, just as Dr. Beckett did. Then you will truly be the John Sheppard of this universe, and we can begin our work."
John smiled and leaned down to kiss Carson's temple lightly. "You've already begun," he pointed out.
Carson sighed, moving closer to John's warmth. "Serendipity. After all, we would have had to eliminate Dr. Weir at some point. Ensuring the gate closed while she and Kolya were half in and half out made it easier on us. The Genii could be blamed, and with the Wraith threat and the Genii now attempting to invade Atlantis, it was so much easier to ensure you were put in charge, instead of Rodney."
John's eyes turned from hazel to brown to green, and he grimaced. "He's fighting me again. He thinks we're trying to destroy Atlantis, the people he loves."
Carson leaned forward, kissing John lightly. "Can't he see we're trying to save this Atlantis from the fate of ours?" he asked softly. "All those people, dead or culled, and there was nothing we could do," he whispered, his mind revisiting the horrors.
John brought a hand up to card through Carson's hair. "Things will be different here," he reassured him. "We will ensure that. No bargaining, no negotiating. No allowing ZPMs to get away because of careless slips of the tongue or Genii intrigue. The safety of our people is foremost, playing nice with others second. That's where Weir went wrong - and would have gone wrong again."
"No allowing Earth to come in and take over without a clue as to what they are doing, ignoring your experience," Carson added softly.
John nodded. "No letting them try to separate us, either."
Carson looked up, a slight smile on his face. "They wouldn't succeed. If physical death couldn't separate us in our universe, I doubt anything could now."
John leaned down to kiss Carson. "McKay's noticed you're acting differently since the storm. I told him I wasn't surprised, considering what happened."
"I don't think you meant considering the mind of a different Carson Beckett had taken over this body."
John shook his head. "Considering the stress we've all been under and the death of Dr. Weir." Nuzzling at Carson's temple, John sighed. "At least no one has discovered how the gate closed."
"No, they haven't. I wasn't even sure I'd be able to do it as a non-corporeal entity, but I had to try."
John stiffened in Carson's arms, body tight with tension. "He wants to denounce us. Reveal us and our plan. I can't let him stop us, Carson, there's too many lives at stake!" The whisper was anguished, and Carson closed his eyes, knowing that the struggle was exhausting. His own with Dr. Beckett had been, and it hadn't taken as long as John's was.
Turning them so John's back was to the window, Carson leaned up to kiss John. "Let me help you, love," he murmured as he took one of the curtains and wound it around John's right wrist. John willingly raised his arms, allowing Carson to wrap the material around John's left wrist and then bind both wrists together with the curtain, keeping John against the window, unable to use his hands.
Carson kissed John again. "You are beautiful like this," he murmured against John's lips.
John smiled. "So are you, when you're tied up."
Carson rubbed his cheek against John's. "How is it Dr. Beckett and Major Sheppard never indulged in each other?"
John leaned his head back, a move Carson knew was his way of asking for attention to his neck. "You know Sheppard had never slept with a man until I took over his body."
"Shame," Carson said, licking John's pulse point. "But hot for me, to take this body's virginity."
John sighed, pushing against his lover. "Carson," he said softly, pleadingly. Carson looked up to see John's lust filled hazel eyes looking down at him, no trace of Major Sheppard lurking in the depths.
Running his hands down John's chest, Carson leaned down to tongue each nipple. John shivered, and Carson slid his hands to John's hips before sinking to his knees. At John's groan, Carson stroked his thumb over the sensitive spot on John's hipbone and licked the head of John's cock.
He could feel John tugging on the curtains, the hitch in his breathing so familiar, even in this new body. It had pleased and surprised them both to discover that these new bodies had the same erogenous zones, the same reactions to each other's touch, as their previous bodies had. Carson wondered if it was more a function of personality than physiology.
"Carson," John moaned, and Carson took pity on him, using his hands to hold John's hips in place as sucked John's cock in, moving in a slow rhythm perfected during countless nights in their universe. It built John's arousal quickly, but then kept him on the edge, writhing and keening in need. Carson took John's entire length in his mouth and swallowed at the same time he lightly scratched a finger on John's hipbone. John's entire body went taut as he came, gasping incoherently and pushing into Carson's mouth. Carson ran his hands up and down John's hips as he swallowed, keeping John's cock in his mouth until it softened and John whimpered as the sensations became too much.
Easing back, Carson licked his lips and looked up at John, who was nearly boneless, the curtains keeping him upright. He looked down at Carson and smiled the lazy, worshipful smile only Carson got to see. Carson's breathing hitched at the sight.
Standing, Carson put one hand behind John's head and pulled him down into a blazing kiss, the other hand on the small of John's back, pushing John against him. Carson thrust his hips against John, his erection seeking the skin to skin friction. John thrust back, adding pressure to the friction, and Carson came, pulling his mouth away from John's to gasp his lover's name as he shuddered against him.
Carson sagged limply against John for a few moments until John shifted. "I want to hold you," he murmured in Carson's ear. Carson looked up and smiled at John, reaching for the curtain and undoing the bindings. John's arms came down to wrap around him, and he gently moved them toward the bed.
Once settled on the bed, John on his back with Carson lying on him, John stroked Carson's back and Carson nuzzled at John's chest.
"We have to save Atlantis, Carson. I can't lose you again," John said softly.
Carson looked up, still seeing no trace of Major Sheppard in John's eyes. "Aye, love. We will save the city." He rested his head on John's chest. And what Major Carson Beckett, M.D. hath joined, he'll let nothing put asunder, he thought just before he fell asleep, safe in his John's arms.
