Welcome to the 2014 SGA Art Santa Exchange!
A new year - a new mod. First of all, I'm grateful to
bluespirit_star for her confidence in entrusting the exchange to me and thank her for managing the community and running the exchange the past four years. I will do my very best to keep up the tradition of excellence the Art Santa exchange has enjoyed over the years. There's been so much lovely art produced for fans and fandom, and I know there's still more to be had from the wonderfully creative and talented fans of SGA. So, let's get started!
Here's how it works:
1. You make a request for some art, outlining the kinds of things you like, and at the same time offer to be an artist to create something for someone else.
2. You are assigned a recipient and given their 'wishlist'.
3. You make something for your recipient (trying to include at least one thing from their list).
4. You submit your art to the mod.
5. The art is posted anonymously for you and everyone else to enjoy. \0/
6. The big reveal of ‘who made what for who’ is posted for a final round of squee and thank yous. :)
Please remember - this is a gift exchange, so if you post a wish then you will be expected to give a gift in return. :)
Important dates:
Sign-ups: sign-ups are open October 5th - October 15th 2014.
Assignments sent out: artists will receive the name of their recipient and their request no later than October 20, 2014.
Check-in: there will be a reminder and check-in (mandatory) November 30, 2014 to see how everyone is doing. Please remember, this is a gift exchange. This check point will also be the best time to let the moderator know if you don't feel you can't complete your gift by the deadline or if you need to drop out of the exchange for any reason. This will not count against the artist (we all know RL happens), but it will allow for time to recruit pinch-hitters - and the moderator will appreciate your honesty and candor.
Art due: completed gifts should be sent to the moderator on or before December 12, 2014.
The Grand Gift Giving: art will be posted anonymously by the ‘Art Santa’ between December 16th - 21st 2014* to much joy and jubilation from all! \o/
The Big Reveal: a master list of ‘who made what for who’ will be posted on 1st January 2015.
* The posting schedule may be altered slightly depending on the final number of artists taking part.
Please note: You will need to join the comm (not just watch) to be able to post your wishlist.
The wishlist format:
LJ user name: your user name
Email address: If you’d prefer not to include it here then please send it, along with your lj user name, to sga.artexchange @ googlemail.com
Things I’d like: This is your chance to tell your artist what you like, so don’t be shy - the more information you give here, the easier it is for your artist to choose. And if you’d like a specific pairing, or character, or genre, then please say here. (Please be polite - no character, pairing or medium bashing, thank you.) You may also state what type of art your prefer: gif set, icons, header, etc.
What I can do: This is the kind of art and the pairings or genre (slash, het, gen) that you can or would be willing to create. You may also want to say what type of medium you can offer.
What I can’t do: Please be specific if there’s something you absolutely cannot do e.g. a particular genre, rating, or pairing, etc. (This will make assigning artists and recipients a lot easier.)
Please post your wishlist as a new post to the community - not as a comment here, and be sure to tag your post as 'wishlist'.
Some FAQs:
What does ‘art’ mean?
Graphics (wallpapers, headers, larger graphical pieces, cover art for stories, etc), drawings, gif sets, icon sets, fan mixes and song vids. This is not a story exchange. Check out the wonderful
sga_santa if you're interested in writing.
What kinds of media are acceptable?
Digital art and drawings, digital manipulation (combining elements from different source images), gif sets, vids, fan mixes and, of course, traditional hand-drawn pieces.
How much do I need to make?
You're only required to make one graphical piece, wallpaper, header, gif set, fanmix, song vid, etc. The exception would be if you're making icons - just one would not fit with the spirit of the season and so a set would be more appropriate. Obviously, if you'd like to make more than one piece or combine pieces (ex: wall and icons) for your recipient that's absolutely fine - but one thoughtfully made gift is all that is required. :)
Do I have to make anything else?
We do require a 'teaser' image (dimensions no larger than 300 x 200 pixels width x height) to accompany your art. (Only one teaser is needed, even if you're submitting multiple pieces.)
How do I submit my art?
Simply attach your art and teaser image to your submission email - there's no need to upload it anywhere first. If, however, you're creating a fanmix or song vid, please email me first to arrange submission (as that would be too big to be an attachment.) Full instructions for submissions will be included in your assignment email.
Banners will be available for pimping and I'll be posting those shortly.
If you have other questions, please just ask in the comments. :)
