“Excuse me?”
Rodney nodded. “For the longest time I had this feeling that I’ve seen you before but I couldn’t place it.”
Jennifer Keller rolled her eyes as she gentle pushed the man towards a bed. She probably needed to check his head before taking care of the cut on his arm. When she reached her hands up to his face, Rodney frowned as moved his head back and his wounded arm forward.
“My head doesn’t hurt, although hearing Sheppard and Ronan coming up with baby names did give me a headache. It’s going away now,” he added. “You really need to take of this first. It might get infected with God knows what. You should have seen the all the rust and dirt on the scrap--” His eyes widen as he pictured the jagged piece of metal he had accidentally fallen on when a tremor rocked the abandon building they were exploring. He snapped his fingers on his good arm. “I’ll need a tetanus shot.”
“Rodney, I know what I’m doing.”
He gave her a weak smile. “Of course you do.” His glaze lingered on her face. “Have you seen Firefly?”
“Have I seen a firefly?” Confusion covered her face. She wasn’t sure where Rodney was going with this conversation. “There were a million of them in my backyard when I was going up. The neighborhood kids used go out and catch them.”
He shook his head. “No, no, no. Firefly. It was a science fiction TV show. Sheppard likes the show and he made us watch it once.”
Jennifer shook her head. “I didn’t watch much TV. I was too busy studying to really get into a show.”
“Yeah, me too. Plus any show with science in it made me cringe with the abuse of the knowledge they attempted to use. Do you know how inaccurate those shows can get?”
Jennifer knew from experience that Rodney McKay would continue to babble until someone refocused his attention back to his original thought. “What about Firefly?” she interrupted him as he started to explain about a space show he watched once.
“Oh, yes, well… There’s this character in it. She’s the ship mechanic--some ace mechanic with no training. I think her name is… Kelly…Kelsey… God, why can’t I think of her name?”
“Do you mean Kaylee?” John answered as he walked farther into the infirmary.
“That’s it. Hey, Sheppard, doesn’t Dr. Keller look like Kaylee?”
John studied Jennifer. She pretended to be entirely focus on cleaning Rodney’s wound to notice both of the men’s stares. They were making her twitchy.
“Just a little. They have the same face, and their hair is similar.” John smiled. “So, you have never seen Firefly?” She shook her head. “This Thursday we’re going to spend the night watching movies. I’m sure I can convince everyone to watch a few episodes of Firefly if you want to join us. Ronan actually likes the show, so it shouldn’t be hard to convince him.”
“Oh, I couldn’t--”
“Yes you could. I’m sure Teyla would enjoy having another girl around for the night.”
Jennifer smiled as she moved away from the men to gather several medical supplies for Rodney. “If you’re sure I won’t be intruding…”
“No intruding at all,” John confirmed. “It’ll be fun.”
Rodney frowned as realization hit. “Hey! It was my night to pick the movie out.”
“And you did, Rodney,” he was told. “It was your idea to watch Firefly.”
“No it wasn’t!”
“Was too!” They were glaring at each other. “Fine, you can pick next time, but only with Teyla’s approval.”
Rodney kept up his glare, but he was secretly happy. Teyla had plans to visit her people the whole time for their next downtime. She wouldn’t be there to veto his movie.
