Cocotte

Located along Dickson Road, among the shophouses and opposite a Hotel 81,
the bright and whimsical building of Wanderlust Hotel housing Cocotte is hard to miss.
Sure, it may seem a little shady, with all the transit hotels in the area, but I'm glad I made the trip.

Nested on the ground level of the hotel, Cocotte presents a casual, cosy setting,
where things are focused about the concept of communal dining and sharing.
I like how they placed the cutlery together to give off that 'eating together', almost canteen-ish feel!

Enjoy unpretentious French fare served up by the hard-working chefs at Cocotte!
Despite an open concept kitchen, there was not at all much noise from the kitchen that diners have to worry about.

After our orders were taken, we were served with some butter and buns to temporarily quell the hunger while waiting.
The only complaint I have is that they do not top up the bread basket. (Hungry hungry!) :p

Homemade Pork Rillettes $18 - served with Mesclun, Mustard and Olives.
Rillettes is a preparation of meat similar to pâté, mormally used as spread on bread or toast and served at room temperature.

Now, this was an interesting appetizer - the pork had an almost similar texture to that of canned tuna.
Covered with a layer of fat, this dish was served slightly chilled, and went well with bread.
The olives & side salad gave a little tang to the dish and rounded it off nicely.`
Would be better though if it came with its own side of toast as well.

Poulet Roti $60 - Whole hormone-free chicken, marinated for 2 days and roasted with fresh herb butter.
Served with gravy, roast baby potatoes and spring vegetables.

I actually kinda fancy the casual layout of the main on what seems to be a chopping board.
The chicken has has been cut up already, so it's pretty convenient for sharing - as with the theme of the restaurant.
The chicken was surprisingly sweet, tender and very light - is this how all hormone-free meats are like?
If ordering just this one main, I believe it's probably only enough for two to share.

Strawberry and Pistachio Cream Tart - $14
Baked on an almond tart shell and garnished with pistachio and white chocolate ganache.

Not exactly how I'd pictured it when we ordered this dessert.
To me, this seems a little deconstructed, rather than how the description was like.
The almond tart shell was a bit hard, but provided a good texture contrast to that of the ganache and strawberries.
A sweet, enjoyable dessert, though we had some trouble/fun getting most of the pistachio bits off the plate. :p

In all, an enjoyable place to have nice and tasty wholesome meals with a casual, laid back ambiance.
Pricing may be a little bit above average, but I feel that this is definitely an experience worth having.
