Remember me?

Hello friends,

It's been a very long time since I updated, and this will not be a long one, since everyone at college is having the same experiences, and everyone at home can read about them. Mine have been pretty much the same.

I am posting to talk about my new writing adventure.

The short story flopped because of a lack of time and of places to take it. That's why my next project will be more of a...documentary.

As some of you, although very few may know, I have recently made a very huge and life altering decision.

I'm going to be a Marine.

I will continue to go to school, although unless you are hanging out near Paris Island, SC, you probably won't see me at all this summer.

And no, it's not a statement on any recent politics. Trust me, calling President Bush my commander-in-chief is going to be a constant source of cognitive dissonance.

I was sitting in my freshman seminar class as we were contemplating our futures after college, and suddenly I saw what I was working toward. The reality hit me as being very grim. I would do my four years in college just like everyone else, and then I would start sucking dick to get on a good publication. I'm not sure that I want to enter the 9-5 meat grinder so soon. The Marine Corps offers me the ability to seriously enrich my experiences in my youth, as I only have one, and will undoubtedly be the most formative experience of my life. Some of your objections here will be answered in my first installment of the new project, which will describe today's meeting with my recruiter.

I will continue the entries, which will be sporadic during the school year, with every dealing I have with the Corps and my feelings about it. And then, beginning in May will come the exciting part.

You see, boot camp is more about mental toughness than physical strength, and one of the things that you have to do in order to retain your sanity is write home. They are trying to phase out handwritten letters in favor of email, and so in addition to writing time, I will have at least a weekly allotment of internet time. As often as I am able, I will be describing life in boot camp for all of you. From the uncertain beginning, through the conviction and dispair, all the way to graduation day, which I expect to be a moment that will be a turning point in my life.

Leave some imput and whatever questions you have on this and any of the rest of the entries.

My future awaits, and those of you who are curious are welcome to watch...
