This one is for tejas, who asked for Daniel and Jack, the first night home after Sha're's funeral. A bit depressing, I'm afraid. Also, possibly a little melodramatic. Word count: ~550

Aw, Daniel - enumerating all the things too about life without Sha're, and losing himself in everything that's wrong... *sniffle*
Here on Earth, no one knew her as anything but victim and quest object.
Yeah, I can just see how coming back to Earth after the funeral would be horribly jarring - it's so different from the family life that Daniel had so completely embraced on Abydos, he's lost all the people who understand exactly who he's lost, all that support structure - or, almost all. :7 Very sad.
The prompt can't help but be a little depressing, I suppose. And once I started - gah, the contrast between Colorado and Abydos couldn't be more stark if they tried!
And that line you quoted - I like it the most, and I think that's some personal meta of mine sneaking in there. Although Daniel surely agrees with me. :)
Mm, Daniel's life on Abydos (what little we see of it) is obviously very different from his life on Earth. He's surrounded by people at the SGC, of course, but not in the same way - I don't get the impression that Daniel is inclined to put himself in the middle of social things, but on Abydos he was kind of stuck with that, and he patently didn't hate it at all. *pats him*
Yeah, it's a pity Sha're never got to come back to Earth. She's one big part of his life, and the team is another, and they've never really met. At least Jack met her briefly.
Yes, exactly - I started writing this, and I felt like I was painting myself into a corner. How could Jack possibly offer comfort? But then there was this sudden realization that Jack did know Sha're and did know what she and Abydos really meant to Daniel. And it all goes back to the movie, really.
Lovely. I like how you don't try to fix things, just give Daniel a bare start at getting better. Recovery won't come all at once, but Jack knows that too--and reminds Daniel that it can be done.
Thank you! Trying to make an easy fix just wouldn't work here, but Jack is probably the only one who could remind Daniel that yes, recovery is possible.

All those toos folded inwards on themselves, muffling his surroundings to a distant, empty roar. He was smothering under their weight, he couldn’t -
*sigh*
