Sentry Duty (PG)

This is for ivorygates, who won the bet over at the sign-ups for Friendship Alphabet Soup and asked for "seeing it for the first time."

So here are some thoughts from an ordinary soldier, standing guard on not-so-ordinary duty. No real spoilers outside a reference to events in COTG. 747 words, rated PG.

We guards remember that the first Earth casualties of the war against the Goa'uld were the soldiers who were assigned to watch the Stargate.
Yes.

I love when you write these glimpses of the people who never get to talk on the show.

What a lovely compliment, thank you! I really think the show was successful because we were surrounded by strong minor characters. Hammond and Janet and Davis et al are the obvious ones, but I have this... thing about competence at the SGC, and I always enjoy highlighting it.

Another really good insight piece! I, too, always loved it when newbies jumped back from the gate for the first time. It felt like an inside joke.

Thanks for keeping this fandom going! I really need to dust off the computer keys....

Ooh, yes, an insider joke! But the good kind. :)

If you want to dust off your computer keys, sign-ups are ongoing for Friendship Alphabet Soup, hint hint.
