July: fandom, fic, recs
Since any fandom time between now and August will be spent on the sg1friendathon (eeeee! only four paragraphs written so far!), I might as well do the monthly roundup now. :)
In the fandom department, there's that sg1friendathon thing. Yeah. Aside from my stalled fic, the ficathon is going wonderfully: ten stories already submitted, only two dropouts (dare I dream that will be all?), and a ficathon frenzy scheduled for the end of August when the real ficathon ends. That's "write fic with no minimum word count to any prompt that wasn't claimed for the actual ficathon." Thanks, Campy, for inspiring the idea!
Other than that... well, I'm still participating in gate_women's 11 in 11 challenge. I've done seven or eight so far, I think. If you're not watching the comm, you might enjoy my awesome women vid recs entry.
And don't forget that the Gatefic awards are in voting mode now. Go check out the nominees and vote for your favorites.
In the fic department, Daniel still isn't letting me finish that angsty ficlet from Into the Fire, so I wrote slightly silly teamy goodness instead. This may actually be an improvement. :) For All Your Beauty Needs is Sam and her boys, frustrated on a matriarchal planet that leaves Sam disgruntled... until Teal'c saves the day and Daniel is too busy laughing to stop Sam from getting just a little revenge on Jack. About 1,600 words, PG.

A new category! Although I've certainly recced Jacob Carter and Selmac before this. These cover more than just Jacob/Selmac, although I will confess that it's remarkably difficult to find non-Jacob related Tok'ra fic that's actually gen!

I had a little fun with ep related recs this month, very carefully choosing fics that featured different characters. One Daniel, one Jonas, one Tomin, one Teal'c... and one that is Jack and Daniel and then Sam and Jack and then Sam and Daniel. Not sure how to classify that last one, heh.

On a side note, though I don't normally do this, I want to mention that I'm very happy to see Magistrate getting some well-deserved attention in our corner of the fandom. If you've only started reading Magistrate's fics in the past few months, here are links to three other recs that I've made in the past:

That last one, in particular, is stunning Sam and Daniel friendship that speaks of loss and absent friends and how very worthwhile those friendships are, just the same. But yes, they're all worth reading. Especially if that will encourage Magistrate to write some more. :)
