Here's the roundup for the past month in my corner of the fandom!
redial_the_gate continues to rewatch Season Eight, and there have been some fantastic recaps of late! E-mails, police reports, action figures... Not to mention more regular recaps with entertaining discussion questions. Go take a look and join the fun!
one_prompt goes live today with the prompt,
That's the last of the coffee. Sadly, my pre-series, post-movie fic is currently languishing on the opening sentence: Four days after they buried the Stargate, when the victory celebration was over and Daniel's hangover had subsided, Kasuf sat down with his daughter and good son to discuss politics. Since the comm allows a five-day grace period, there is still hope of writing it on time... but not much. Sigh.
We'll be having another
SG-1 Gen Fic Day sometime towards the end of January, with another Alphabet Soup. Technically, Bra'tac should be next on the list, but since it's been quite a while since our last Soup, I want to ease back into things with a more general topic: Crossovers. We'll have the claims post sometime in December, with at least a month for writing after everyone has recovered from NaNo and/or any end-of-year ficathons. Details to follow in the coming weeks. :)
I got some more fic writing done this month, yay!
First come the ladies of Stargate:
Previously, on Stargate SG-1. Eight ep-related drabbled based on a woman's name and an episode from the show. Two Sam, two Janet, and one each for Cassie, Linnea, Reese, and Lindsey Novak. The sequel is the guys of the Gate in their own
Previously, on Stargate SG-1 post: one drabble each for Teal'c, Daniel, Jack, Jonas, and Mitchell.
Other than that, there was also
Motivation, a Daniel character introspective that is set in late S3 and goes rather heavy on the angst. I don't love the direction of Daniel's character arc in later seasons, but I can't claim that it doesn't make all too much sense. This fic explains why.
I am happy to say that I finally posted another entry in the Canon vs. Fanon series! This one was
on the Goa'uld, and it's interesting to see how heavily the discussion skewed toward Vala's experiences and the nature of host awareness and memory. I hope to get one more entry posted before the end of the calendar year, but please don't hold your breath. :)
Onto this month's recs, which were Teal'c and Sam. These were all cross-posted at
stargateficrec and
figs_sg1_rec. The
master list of fic recs is current through the end of October, although if you're looking for something specific, you might do better with the
tags.
Teal'c recs
Any One You Walk Away From, by Penknife (PG-13) Like a Bicycle, by Astrogirl (G) Act of Contrition, by Mad Maudlin (PG) Jaffa and Son, by Mish (G) Three Teal'c ficlets, by Kellifer (PG) There are many, many Teal'c and [insert name here] recs, but the last time I recced pure Teal'c, it was
back in 2008.
Sam recs
Ties That Bind, by Fridayschild (G) Faith in Royalty (or Lack Thereof), by Gingasaur (PG-13) Models of the Heart, by Nightspear (PG) Tin Man, by Manic Penguin (G) Paper Cup, by Seimaisin (G) Like Teal'c, Sam is mostly recced in "Sam and [insert name here] friendship" categories. The last purely Sam month can be found
here.
::insert regular encouragement to
sign up to rec here::
In other rec news,
sg1genrecs's current theme is SG-1/SGA crossovers. If you've got any favorite gen fics that feature both shows, I hope you'll wander over and rec it.
On a final note, a general question for all of you: what's the best way to track the number of hits on a given page? Until now, I've used LJ Toys and I've been mostly happy with it, but the admins for LJ Toys plan to stop service in the near future. I can't object, since I had a free account. ;) I'm not really interested in who visits my journal; I just like to know when someone visits an old Canon vs. Fanon entry or reads my fanfic. What do most people use, and what would you recommend?
