Thank you! Keeping the child's perspective together with the adult's personality was hard - good thing I had Random to thump me over the head about it. :)
This is really wonderful. I love the picture you create of a young Sha'uri: determined, inquisitive and (though she isn't always aware of it) wise beyond her years.
Thank you! I think Sha'uri had to be all those things to get to be the amazing person she is in the movie/show - you don't just rebel against the indoctrination of a lifetime without some doubts first.
Wow! That last sentence sent chills down my spine. I love this portrayal of Sha'uri and her determination to see the wonders of her world. It speaks of her bravery and intelligence, showing us so much more of Sha'uri than we would ever see in the movie or episodes. And the lullaby (which I assume you made up?) is just... oh my gosh, just perfect!
if we ride past the stars I will carry you home
*sniffle* These lines are going to haunt me, you know. :)
Great story!!
And on a lighter note:
But why were the forbidden drawings allowed to remain, telling their falsehoods beneath the ever-seeing Eye?
Thank you! Such lovely detailed feedback is such a pleasure :)
I think the movie did show us an inquisitive, determined Sha'uri, which is why something like this had to have happened. How did she know about the hieroglyphs she showed Daniel if she hadn't seen them herself sometime before?
The lullaby is a sort of amalgamation of typical lullaby/comfort songs, a bit of what I could find on Ancient Egyptian belief, and the need to somehow reference travel through the Stargate. :)
Your voice for Sha'uri is brilliant and the balance of the child voice is nicely done too. A good story indeed and one for a time that doesn't get much telling :)

Oh Sha'uri. So smart and brave, yet so naive. :)
