Haven't finished this yet, but I wanted to comment before I forgot:

“You’ve got me,” she said gently. “I’m okay.”

“Yes. Yes. Thank you.”

Humor? Check. Warm fuzzies? Check. Character moment? Check.

How do you pack all of that into two lines of dialog? I am in awe!
