Grounded (PG)

This is Random's birthday fic, which means she didn't get to wave her magic beta wand over it. :) My thanks to Aurora Novarum, who tried valiantly to beta the story despite the disastrous formatting problems. Any mistakes she missed are due to the strikeouts and scribbles and are entirely my own ( Read more... )

if I ever shipped anyone, it would really be Daniel/Sha'uri. We just don't see enough of this! I'd quote a favorite line of mine if I didn't have to requote half the story. *happehsigh*

loved it, really.

Thank you so much. :) Daniel/Sha'uri (or Sha're, heh) is the one ship that I unabashedly embrace in SG-1, and that's probably because it's built into canon without interfering with the teamy goodness.

Okay, I probably wouldn't mind Jack/Sara and Teal'c/Drey'auc, for the same reason. But they're a rare lot.

Unlike just about any other ship I can think of, Daniel/Sha're makes the story happen. If he wasn't completely in love with her and then she taken by Apophis, he might not have left Abydos and hence no awesomeness that is OT4 SG-1. The resignation scene from Daniel's dream during FiaD supports that I think.

Oooh, a fascinating observation. I don't know if Daniel would've turned his back to Earth, but he certainly wouldn't have joined a front-line team if he wasn't out searching for Sha're and Skaara. So, yes. A most intriguing thought.

Layered and lovely. I really like your take on pre-series Shau'ri. This fits in so well with the other story you did recently, where Shau'ri starts her secret rebellion against Ra at age eleven.

Thank you! One of my goals for this calendar year was trying to find Sha'uri's voice, and I'm cautiously hopeful that I've been successful.

Oh, Daniel! I'm glad he got a year with Sha'uri/Sha're, at least.

I'm with samantilles; in fact, the only reason I don't write ship for them is because somehow I haven't been able to get a feel for writing her, and I don't want to do it badly. I do like to read it done well, as you do it!

I'm stuck right there too--Kasuf and even Skaara are easier to write, I imagine. Something tells me though you'd do a mighty fine job.

Wow; thanks! I just don't have a story for them right now. Maybe someday....

Oh, yes. A year's not enough, but it's better than nothing!

Like you, I find it hard to find her voice. I'm trying, and I hope it's working. :) Thanks for letting me know that it works for you, at least!

This is absolutely beautiful, and so true to what I think Daniel would've felt when faced with the reality of his decision to stay behind.

Thank you so much - Random wanted that reaction, and I'm glad to hear it came through for you. :)
