Looking for recs: gen fics (and podfics). And while we're at it, SG-1 Gen Fic Day!

Later this week, I'm off to the States for a visit with family. Despite eight days with no internet access (gasp!) I am very much looking forward to it. :)

However, I'll have fourteen or so hours of travel time (a little less on the way back), so I'm looking for recs. Naturally I would love it if someone could rec some good solid SG-1 gen I haven't read yet! And podfic would be just fantastic. There seems to be very little gen podfic out there, sadly (although malnpudl would like to do something about that - if you've got any to recommend for her, go read her post.)

Other than SG-1, I love anything Tolkien (bookverse only) that treats the original material with respect (for example, Erinrua's superb Eomer fic, Ashes, East Winds, Hope that Rises) and that doesn't merrily pair everyone with everybody (my gen genes are pretty constant, heh). Discworld fic is awesome when it's done right, which... doesn't happen very often, so I'll be delighted if anyone has any recs there. Good plotty stories in the Lois and Clark fandom are great, although that's probably just a matter of wandering over to the fic archive and checking last year's noms for the Kerth Awards. :) And Watership Down fic that isn't Mary-Sued doesn't seem to exist, sigh - I'd be amazed if someone could prove me wrong there!

Oh, yes, and classic Star Wars, with no reference to the prequels, thank you very much. ;) I have a particular soft spot for fic that explores the gap between ANH and ESB.

But back to SG-1. :) Our last SG-1 Gen Fic Day was back in late October, so it's time for another one! No Alphabet Soup this time, so it's up to all of you to write your own gen story or ficlet or drabble or commentfic for February 2nd. Fic, meta, art, vids - anything goes, as long as it's gen and SG-1!

Feel free to browse through previous Gen Fic Day contribution at the round-ups, linked here. And spread the word to your own flists, please - start writing some fic in honor of our first Gen Fic Day of 2009, so we can take back the glee - and bring on the squee. :)

sg-1 fic recs, gen fic day
