Title: It Followed Me Home
Rating: PG
Challenge #44: "Children" ("Babies" optional)
Warnings/Spoilers: Set in season two.
Summary: Daniel finds a stray. Jack is less than thrilled.
Author's Notes: Sorry about the long delay, but my laptop decided to break and I've been unable to access a computer long enough to write anything.
"What the hell is that?" Jack demanded.
Daniel glanced down at the creature in his arms. "It's a dog... cat... lizard... thing," he offered. "Jack-"
"No."
"You don't even know what I was going to say."
"Sure I do."
"It's just a baby, Jack. It'll die without its mother."
"That's not our-"
"Actually, it is. Apparently, Mama was standing on the Gate steps when we dialed up."
The dog-cat-lizard-thing hissed forlornly, and Daniel scratched behind its spiky ear-flap. It purred, closing its weird purple eyes and snuggling against the archaeologist's chest.
"Look, Daniel-"
"Oh, it's so cute!" Carter exclaimed, re-entering the camp after her perimeter check. "Can I hold it?"
Jack stared in disgust as his 2IC cuddled the dog-cat-lizard-thing and told it just how adorable it apparently was. He looked over to see if Teal'c shared his disbelief, but the Jaffa's face was as stoic as ever.
"Sir, we have to help it," Carter pleaded, and the creature mewled pitifully.
"Carter, we can't just-"
"Please, Jack?" Daniel interrupted, eyes wide. At times like this, Jack was more convinced than ever that he and Carter were long-lost twins seperated at birth, giving him identical expressions of begging that reminded him of stubborn children.
He sighed. "Fine, you can feed it or whatever. But keep it away from me, okay?"
Later that night, the dog-cat-lizard-thing made itself at home on Jack's chest.
