Hockey!

Okay, how many of you are going to be watching the hockey game this afternoon? It's going to be a real nailbiter, no matter which side you're rooting for. Personally, I think our entire country will end up on the floor in a fetal position if we lose. I don't envy the players. Having the Olympics at home has really upped the ante.

The USA-Canada semi-final was the first hockey game I had ever watched and I intend to be in front of the TV for the gold medal game.
NBC has made much of the fact that if Canada had their choice of only winning one gold, it would be for hockey. Promises to be a great game, which ever way it goes.
They just had a bit on NBC, there were already people in the stadium two hours before game time and tickets are going for as high as $15,000 on EBay.

It's impossible to over-emphasize how much hockey means to Canadians. If you put the American love of baseball and football together, you might have some idea of how Canadians feel about hockey, but I think it might go beyond that. It's an intrinsic part of the national identity.

This really will be a great game, although I fully expect to have to get up and leave the room for a bit when it gets to be too much. Yelling scares the pets. ;)

Yeah, that's one point that they've talked about, that it's almost impossible to talk about Canada without talking about hockey.
Here in Kentucky, most of us are rabid University of Kentucky basketball fans and there are times I have to mute the TV. Or I'll just turn it off altogether.
I may have to take up the habit of watching hockey, it's certainly an exciting sport!

It was an awesome game, although I almost had a heart attack when it got tied up with 23 seconds to go in the third period. I'm sure thare was a change in the air pressure as all of Canada gasped and yelled 'no!' (or something worse) at the same time. ;) I scared the heck out of my pets. Course, that was nothing compared to Crosby's goal when I started jumping around and yelling. Heh....
