This and that

First of all, I'm incredibly pleased that Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping won Leo awards last night. They are so very well deserved.

Leaves are coming out in the trees! Yay!

I've realized that I seem to be rather fixated with ascension in my most recent stories (two that are still unposted), a video (Heart Beat) that I posted last week, and one I am working on now. I only touch on it peripherally in the stories, but there is clearly some idea trying to work itself out of my brain. It must be somewhat abstract, or I would have happened upon it by now. I just hope that when it eventually emerges, it's supported by canon enough to be usable. On the other hand, my brain is a very canon place, so the odds are pretty good.

Something else has occurred to me while working on these stories. I am getting a much better understanding of why they sent Jonas home so quickly after Daniel's return, and why Teal'c was so often left to hold up walls in the series.

It is tremendously difficult to find a need for both Jonas and Daniel to be in the same place and each have something to do. I could take either one of them out of the story, and the other could pick up the necessary tasks without blinking an eye. Very difficult in terms of story structure and content.

And Teal'c, well, I find it hard to deal with a character who only speaks when he has something important to say, and is so entirely succinct. If I ever decide to write a book, screenplay, or whatever with original characters, they're definately going to be on the chatty end of the spectrum. Or be quietly emotional. The combination of silence and stoicism presents certain challenges.
