I am in Louisiana during phase I survey until January 28. That means that I will have to spend my birthday down here ... I am less than pleased. Today I got the lovely new experience of surveying through sugarcane fields, and they are now probably one of the worst things I can possibly have to imagine working in. Far far worse than corn fields. I fell sooooo many times. It was also very cold due to the weather that is all over the nation. Then upon arriving back at the hotel I find out that the meeting time for jogging is in 5 minutes. I lay on my bed, whimper slightly, then put on clothes (I had no idea what to wear to jog in the cold) and headed out. We went for 44 minutes. That is a long time for me. Typically I call it quits at 20 ... sometimes when I feel the need I can push it to 30. She runs quite a bit slower than I would on my own, and that is the ONLY reason I was able to make it. We also stopped 1/2 way in for stretching which lasted a couple of minutes.
I finished a book which is advertised to give you an introduction to GIS called "Getting to Know ArcGIS Desktop" .... yeah. I did get to know it so I guess I don't have much to complain about, but ... it definitely did not contain the amount of information I was aiming for. BUT ITS OK!(don't freak out) I have another book already in the mail headed my way called "GIS Tutorial" which is the level 1 text book on GIS. Hopefully this will give me the kind of intro I'm looking for.
I've also been doing quite a bit of reading (I refuse to turn on the TV in the room to try and encourage myself not to let it slowly sap my life away). I finished "The Art of Ancient Egypt" by Gay Robins and I will finish "The Complete Royal Families of Ancient Egypt" by Aidan Dodson & Dyan Hilton tonight. The first book is AWESOME and if I run out of stuff to read before I get to head home (as I will) I will re-read it. The second ...... yeah. If you are seriously into genealogy then you may like this book. Make sure you read it will a watchful eye though there are several editing errors. I was hoping for much more of a story of the lives and not so much of a "So and so may be the wife of King Awesome because of a partially re-carved statue fragment found in a Super 8 toilet which depicts her standing next to an un-named king. Though it may be her son or her grandfather." ... I mean really. A couple hundred pages of that and more detailed stuff than that. I am glad to be putting it away on the shelf. Useful reference ... horrid casual read.
K I'm really tired now and want something cold to drink instead of coffee. Night
