There definitely was some mind-sharing going on for this whole set of responses. I suppose since none of us can attribute cowardice to any of SG-1, and the MALP rules out most accidents, the choices were limited. Still, it's neat to see that we all agree on characterization!

Five times SG-1 stepped foot on a planet, only to immediately turn around and go home.
1. Monday Jack emerged from the gate and the “Holy shit!” he shouted out was slammed back into his face by the wind. He ran down to the DHD, ready to dial as soon as the wormhole shut down. As each member of SG-1 came through, he shouted, “Move it! We're leaving!” The rest of SG-1 moved away from where the incoming wormhole would next appear. Of course they had to observe and report first.
“Sir, we need to study this, the implications…”
“Jack! Whoa! I knew there was a reference to this in the temple writings. Let me just get my video camera out. This was apparently an important sign to the indigenous people since it implied the appearance of…” Geez, he could talk fast

3. Wednesday SG-1 watched the monitor. The MALP showed grasslands and heat. The UAV had shown miles and miles of empty plains and no shade. Meaning more heat. On the horizon there was a massively tall, er, phallic symbol. “Obelisk, Jack.” Daniel’s eyebrows celebrated this discovery by rising to the occasion, while Daniel took a very deep breath in an attempt to state his comments without interruption. “That shows the sun-god symbol of the North American Plains Indians. But it’s a totem, maybe an influence of coastal tribes. This shows significant cross-pollinization of…” Yadda. Jack had quit listening after yet another mention of another god. Maybe they wouldn’t go.
Of course there was naquada in the soil. They were so going

4. Thursday The last view displayed on the MALP monitor, showed a mildly overcast day, a hillside dotted with trees and at the top of the hill... Jack asked the room, “Is that a castle?” The room responded three different ways, like an echo with three different reports. The Daniel part of the room, managed to get out, “Oh, yes it’s probably…”
“Made of naquada, sir.” Carter’s sciencey part of the room cut in, ignoring Daniel’s frown.
“Indeed.” The rest of the room added.
After a one-hour wait while medics evacuated another SG team, then bringing back all four injured men to the SGC, SG-1 had a go.
Jack took point and went through first, he stepped out onto another world and stopped dead. He felt the others come through, then the wormhole shut down. It was pitch black, a cold rain was bombarding him and something, way too close, was howling

Very cool slice-of-realism you don't see very often, that their mission had to wait on the completion of another gate-requisite task. These first two show that the SGC should probably have a protocol about always following a MALP through and only after receiving up-to-date telemetry, but they rarely do that on the show ... now you've got me wanting to go back and look at early eps and see if they did and they just got lazy about it and stopped, the way they stopped having the team wear helmets.
The circumstances they encounter when they go through, and the way you describe Jack's perception of them -- neat, very dramatic.

Teal’c and Carter were to one side of him, a step ahead. The sides of their faces glistening with rivulets of rain, an eerie laser-light show. They were gazing forward and up. The castle. Well at least it was the right planet. Daniel was still behind him, a little to the side, pressed close, breathing near his ear. He felt Daniel’s hands slide down his arms and apply gentle pressure to guide the light on Jack’s weapon. Okay, yeah, shit. They’d been on the planet less than a minute, but it seemed much, much longer. He let Daniel guide the light, while he squinted, trying to follow his light and ignore the lightning strikes. Okay, he saw steps down, forward. “Yes!” Daniel breathed on his neck, again making Jack shiver. He nudged Jack with a shove of his hips, along with that ‘yes’ of relief. The DHD, bless it’s heart, right where it was supposed to be. He yelled toward Carter, “Dial us outta here!” He tried threat-assessing their surroundings, unsuccessfully seeking information, the rain and lightning interfering. She headed for the DHD

That's part of the reason this is so much fun.
It's because we just know SG-1 so damn well, and in some A/U this all happened anyway!
