Five ways Janet Fraiser didn't die sidljMay 8 2011, 22:55:44 UTC
It was Janet’s day off
The staff blast missed her
The staff blast winged her
The staff blast hit Daniel instead (and whether he lived or died is immaterial, knowing Daniel)
The car seemingly came out of nowhere. The speed it was traveling at was beyond illegal: it was obscene for a car to go that fast on a residential street. It struck Janet’s car squarely on the driver’s side doors and sent her car skidding sideways through the intersection, up the curb and into a tree. The street was littered with broken glass and streaked with tire marks. The driver of the other car was killed instantly. His passenger bled out slowly before medical help arrived. Ironically, Janet could have saved him if she hadn’t been trapped and unconscious

1. She caught a nasty strain of the flu which had been going around Colorado Springs. Dr. Brightman went to P3X-666, where he died saving the life of Airman Wells.
2. She was wearing an experimental new vest designed to absorb the energy from a staff blast. She ended up with first-degree burns (still some design kinks to work out), but Janet knew she was lucky to be alive.
3. In one reality, Airman Wells fell ever so slightly to the north, so the staff blast only singed Janet's hair.
4. The initial probe revealed that P3X-666 was crawling with Jaffa, so no SGC personnel went through the gate to that destination.
5. Seconds before firing, the Jaffa who would have shot Janet was killed by SG-3.

I don't know how fast Oma can react! OTOH she managed to Ascend all of Abydos when Nuby blew it up, so that's probably not an issue.

5. Too bad that in canon the Jaffa was killed seconds after firing. :-(

So many ways of looking at it! I mean, getting shot the second you step through the Gate doesn't sound like a good thing. But, wow.
