#5) It was supposed to be an easy day. Dr. Jennifer Keller was going with Teyla to the Athosian village, she had packed lollipops for crying out loud! Instead, she found herself limping through the forest with a guy named Nabel who possibly sold out the Athosians to some sort of bad guys called the Bola Kai. Oh, and they were being hunted by those bad guys and maybe there was a Wraith worshipper involved. It had turned out to be a really bad day.
That, and her ankle hurt. A lot. She was working herself into a full fledged rant when their prisoner, Nabel, said he needed to rest.
Teyla spoke in a low voice, "He's slowing us down and he is making your ankle injury worse."
"Well, if we leave him behind, the Bola Kai are going to capture him." Keller looked at the man warily.
"If we continue this way, we will all be captured."
Jennifer became indignant. She knew Teyla was only trying to protect her, but she was determined to pull her weight. Even if her ankle hurt.
"I signed up for this, all right? All of it. I may not have had any idea what I was getting into, but that makes me no different from anybody else on Atlantis."
Later, when Nabel is pointing a gun at them and demanding the gate address to Atlantis, Jennifer wanted to kick herself for trying to save the guy. Then Teyla grappled with Nabel and somehow Jennifer ended up with the gun.
"I'll shoot you," she said, her hands shaking slightly.
Nabel saw her fear, her hesitation and didn't believe her. "No you won't. You don't have it in you. You're a doctor, a healer, not a killer."
Her anger flared. She was so damned tired of people telling her what she is and is not capable of, and of people thinking that doctors are weak and naive because they don't go around shooting people and bashing in heads. Her hands stopped shaking and her eyes narrowed. "You're right. I am a healer. But first I need something to heal."
She shot him in the leg and instantly felt relieved. The murderous look Teyla gave Nabel when she started grilling him about what happened to the Athosians made her feel even better. Sometimes anger is a useful thing.
