Evan stares at the jumper. There are deep gouges running along the right-hand drive pod, which won't close and keeps making pathetic creaking noises as it attempts to do so. It's smoking slightly.

He looks at the pilot, who tries, and fails, to look contrite.

1. He staged a coup. It was relatively bloodless, and there were no fatalities. The members of the Expedition who hadn’t been affected by the pollen never saw it coming, and didn’t believe it when they saw it, so they just didn’t put up much of a fight. Lorne put his minions in charge of keeping the city running and the non-minions locked down, and concentrated his efforts on a painting of himself as Colossus bestride the city

I think it's the little details that really sell it. Like Lil Shep crying when the Marines laugh at him. And "Genie, not Genii"
