1. "the big chair." the chair at sam's desk was great. high back, extra lumbar support, adjustable tilt, upright locking position, a large nylon base for greater stability & hooded double wheel casters for easy movement. it was a thing of beauty.
2. her quarters were bigger than they were at the SGC & she had a view.
3. the meetings couldn't start until she arrived.
4. if there was some project or experiment that sam had an interest in she could assign extra people & resources to it. providing they weren't tied up in other assignments of course.
5. they always set aside a cup of blue jello just for her in the mess hall.

1. She’s in charge. Of an entire military base. And it’s not like she wants to go all evil dictator or anything (well, only when biology won’t shut up about bringing a two-headed Pegasus sheep back to the city) but she’s a woman in the Air Force, and a woman in the country’s most top secret project. She pretty much jumped at the chance when the SGC came asking, but she did it thinking she was saying goodbye to even the slim chance she had of ever being put in charge
( ... )
She can rework the water and heating systems to give her quarters priority. Most people on Atlantis have gotten used to luke warm and cold showers. But not her.
Not going out on missions - don't make any mistake, she loved her time on SG-1, but pre mission med check, post mission med check, injuries, walking for miles everyday, mud, other less pleasant smelling goos-ugh. Keeping clean annd callus free is definitly a plus point.
People bring her coffee. And they make it for her too. Carter hasn't had to make her own coffee since she got here.
She's in charge of uniforms. Say goodbye grey with primary colours. Hello black and sexy.
No one expects her to save the world, well not as much, anyway. Now she orders Rodney to do it, or Shepperd, or Zelenka. No wonder Hammond and Jack got Earth into so much trouble, ordering people to do the impossible and knowing it's going to get done is kind of fun. Bring it, Wraith!
Tiny bit of implied slash at the end. 8Dlilyleia78March 30 2009, 05:56:16 UTC
Five things Sam *really* likes about being in charge of Atlantis.
1. The chance to use all her skill sets to the fullest. Not that she wasn't doing that on SG-1, but there was always someone to remind her that she's an officer in the USAF and that comes first. On Atlantis, sometime the city's best interests are best served by serving science, and that's a nice change of pace.
2. Rodney McKay. Yeah, that little leering crush thing was really creepy when they first met, and the man's ego is still big enough for any three people she knows. But he's an astrophysicist, and he gets it. Not in the more general scientist-in-the-field way Daniel gets her, but in a more specific 'theoretical-becomes-practical' way. It makes the ache of homesickness a little easier when McKay bounces ideas off of her and they start finishing each other's sentences
