Because of Teal'c
It's after a long mission and two weeks on a cargo ship, and they come through the Stargate after finally getting to another planet that had one with Daniel and Vala still talking. Sniping, Mitchell says. Sam calls them the 'Bickersons.' And the pulse is beating slow in Teal'c's jaw. Daniel has already sworn he doesn’t argue--these are healthy discussions. It's a point that Vala agrees with him, before diverting off to tease and torment him on some other point. After they're cleared in the infirmary, Teal'c follows Daniel and Vala to Daniel Jackson's office. Since there's still a 'discussion' going on about what constitute actually fixing a cargo ship's ring transport and what constitutes ripping out crystals without a clue what'll happen, neither Vala or Daniel notice anything until both doors shut and lock.
With a glance at Vala, Daniel moves to the door and knocks, then says, "Uh--Teal'c?" His phone rings then and Vala answers and waves for Daniel to get his ass over there. They both listen as Teal'c says, "Samantha Carter, Colonel Mitchell and I have discussed this. We have agreed that it is time that you reached a more harmonious understanding with each other."
"I'm harmonious," Vala says. Then she shoves Daniel with one elbow. "Aren't I?"
He glances at her, frowns, then takes the phone receiver. "Y'know, this is not exactly the best place to strand us--someone's going to notice."
"Not while you are in a time dilation field."
Daniel's stare darts to the Vala, and then to the locked door. "This isn't--you mean on the ship…are you recreating those same circumstance?"
"We couldn't have," Vala says. She glances at Daniel, and he stares back, then they blurt out at the same time with the same disbelief, "Fifty years?"
"You are each far more pleasant after having come to terms with the defenses you have set for each other."
The phone goes dead. And Daniel slumps into his chair. Vala stares at the phone. "He can't. We'll starve." Daniel winces. "Well, actually--uh, I keep a pretty good stash." He waves his hand at his office. They have food, water, a bathroom.
"We have to…" Daniel starts, and Vala says, "We can't…." What seems like only hours later, Teal'c unlocks the doors. He finds Daniel Jackson asleep on the floor, and Vala Mal Doran asleep on Daniel Jackson. He smiles, and decides he will not tell them too soon that he lied about the time dilation field.
