gift giving for all sorts of occasions. vala's gifts were usually more fun than practical & she always used bright wrapping paper and a lot of ribbon.
making a toast. vala always kept it short and avoided rhymes.
giving candy to kids on halloween. it seemed to make them happy and vala's costume always got a look of appreciation from the fathers/uncles/older brothers who accompanied them.
decorating for the major holidays. vala felt it got people in the right frame of mind for the holiday in question & she often wore a holiday-themed barrette.
celebrating birthdays. vala thought it was nice for people to have a day that was theirs. even if someone didn't like to celebrate the day she always got them a card or bought them their favorite drink or snack.
Five Earth customs Vala adopts as her ownsidljNovember 20 2011, 00:58:40 UTC
Eating dessert first. She learns that from Teal'c, who learned it from Jack. So it's more of a Jack custom really, but of course Vala doesn't realize that at first. By the time she does, she doesn't care. Life is short, compared to the eternity she once faced as a host.
Hosting a party, on the other hand….
New Year's Eve. She likes it so much that she goes Earth one better, or actually eleven better. New Month's Eve, with streamers and hats and confetti and noisemakers, and sparkling grape juice if she can't get her hands on anything better. (She can almost always get her hands on something better.)
With the morning comes the hangover.
Drinking copious amounts of coffee. She initially learns that from Daniel, although he's certainly not the only caffeine abuser on base. Or even on SG-1. Vala confines her excess consumption to the first day of the month and only drinks to be sociable the rest of the time.
She likes being sociable, and with Sam's help, and then Cam's, she finds a way.
