My gosh, I'm already guessing you've entered the Obfuscated Perl Code contest.

sfllaw just came over to my desk and explained this program to me. I think I understand it, but I'm no more inclined to learn Perl as a result...

I think what I really have versus Perl is a non-Believer complex. It does seem like a beautiful language to be fluent in, just like those languages spoken with no vowels would be beautiful.

Strangely enough, there are no known natural languages with no vowel sounds.

For every programming language, there seems to be a niche where it fits well. You don't have to have faith in it, you just have to know which language to use for which purpose. And when the fit is good, you'll be happy.

Here's a good read that my pushers passed on:

We were having a Ruby-on-Rails-related discussion. And so according to this, python and perl are on their way out to give way to Ruby...

The only thing I dislike about Ruby is that it assumes you want objects. But most of the time, I don't want to think in objects. I want to think how I think.

That's why I like Perl. But I really want Perl 6.

I haven't followed this sort of thing in a while, and was quite surprised just now to hear that Perl 6 still isn't ready.
