Apparently a huge population of immigrant Somali children in Springfield, Massachusetts were distributed to 18 public schools last year and 23 public schools this year. The only translator goes from school to school ON A BUS PASS to work. So why not put them at the same school? Because the city fears it would lower the state MCAS (mandatory standardized test scores) and that wouldn't be fair to the principals whose success is measured by this yardstick.
At what point have we forgotten that schools exist to educate children, not reward principals?
And if the MCAS would be responsible for unfairly penalizing principals, why the heck don't they change the rules governing its use?
This is outrageous and despicable.
