Epic Fail

So, in the wee hours of Sunday morning, I was getting ready to go to bed (for the second time), and while brushing my teeth, I heard a revving engine, screeching tires, and the peculiar gunshot-like sound of twisting metal. And then I heard it all again.

Perhaps this was rather self-centered, but my first thought was, "So glad my car is in a garage [and not the open lot]."

I looked out a couple of windows, but couldn't see anything. I didn't worry about it; I heard sirens by that point, so obviously someone was on the case. Not that it apparently mattered much.

At a more reasonable hour of the morning, when I was heading to church, I saw some débris in the lot, and a mangled Corolla missing its rear bumper.

I asked the apartment manager about it this evening, and she filled in the gaps in my information. A visitor to the complex was leaving, completely soused, and probably on drugs, too, as several bottles of Vicodin were lying in plain sight in his car. He managed to wreck not one but three cars. He had no insurance. The sheriffs summoned to the scene said that they couldn't do anything about it, since it happened on private property. Not only did they let him go, despite the several thousand dollars' worth of property destruction, THEY LET HIM DRIVE HOME.

Harris County Sheriff's Department: you fail. Having said that; none of this is really new to me; I already knew you suck.

things disturbing, cars, didn't think this through
